Mission Statement
The University of New Mexico's Pre-Medical Society has a mission to spread awareness to the community about opportunities that exist within all fields of medicine. We are an organization made for and run by UNM undergraduate students. One of our primary goals is to provide students with information and resources pertaining to volunteering, shadowing, and research. Additionally, we try to bring awareness regarding issues in the healthcare field that affect the world today, especially those that affect the state of New Mexico. Ultimately, our aim is to encourage members to network, support, and share resources with other aspiring pre-medical and pre-health students so that we can all effectively navigate our academic paths and be well-prepared for our future healthcare endeavors.

Meet Our Officer Team!
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
I joined Pre-Medical Society because of the wonderful mentorship that the past officers provided me with. A career in medicine is very fulfilling and diverse, however, it is a hard process to become a physician. When I first came to UNM I had trouble establishing myself and finding like-minded peers. Pre-Medical Society helped me find the resources I need around campus, in addition to allowing me to find friends. I want to be able to help other pre-med students on this journey as well! |
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
As a pre-MD/PhD student, this will be my 3rd year in Pre-med Society both as a member and an exec alongside Dorsa. To briefly explain my passion for medicine, my cumulative experiences through shadowing a variety of specialties (from holding many organs in Forensics to helping suction in the OR), I validated my interest in surgery. I also have a strong research background in Neuroscience (neuroimmunology specifically) which is the genera field of research I want to pursue for the PhD portion in a future dual-degree program. I have a lot of knowledge on pre-med resources and realized that a lot of pre-med students are not as aware of the opportunities they can take advantage of on and off campus. As a Co-president I hope that we can inspire pre-med students to find what type of healthcare profession is suited for them and push them become more confident about their future career planning. I look forward to networking and seeing Pre-med members at our meetings! |
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
I joined Premed Society to build friendships and collaborate with other like minded Premed students at UNM. I have life experience and wanted to share that experience with my peers and colleagues. One day we will all be doctors and collaborators working with one another as leaders of medicine. To work as a team is important and not a lot of premeds do that due to the competitive nature of med school applications. We want a collaborative environment for the UNM premed society. Together we will serve UNM premed students, all of UNM, and our great state of NM. |
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
I had always wanted to have a career in medicine, but I did not really know where to start with my journey. I had started a club on my own in high school to talk about current medical innovations, but I eventually passed it on to some younger students because I wanted to do more with my vision. Once I entered university, I stumbled upon Pre-Medical Society, and I liked how it had a lot of resources that I could use to foster my interest in medicine, such as volunteering, learning from healthcare professionals and interactive workshops. The club has helped me to become a person with a wider perspective on life and discover what it really means to be a healthcare professional. |
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
I joined the pre-med society to meet other people who share my goal of eventually having a career in healthcare. This organization has provided me with great friends and incredible resources (like shadowing opportunities) that I could not have found anywhere else. |
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
I joined Pre-Med Society because of the many opportunities this organization offers. From connections to doctors to chances at winning MCAT scholarships, the Pre-Med Society has provided me and many other students with resources to contribute to our success. This is an organization that has been a huge blessing to me and my peers and I plan on working hard to continue to help others! |
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
I joined Pre-Med Society in order to help incoming Pre-Med Students navigate the very difficult process of applying to medical school and being prepared to apply for medical school. In my two years in college so far I’ve gained a large amount of experience about the process of becoming a suitable candidate to apply to medical school and I cannot wait to share this knowledge with the members of the Pre-Medical Society. |
Why I joined the pre-medical society:
I first joined Pre-Medical Society as a first semester freshman. I remember not knowing anyone in my major or any friends at all. Through attending these meetings I gained some of my current like-minded lifelong best friends. I also got to meet so many mentors in the form of doctors and even students who are a couple of years ahead. I was inspired to join the officer team to help students share the same advantageous experience that this club has provided me! |
